5 Reasons to Come to Barcelona this Fall

Maybe I am letting the cat out of the bag, but the truth is that fall is a much better time of the year to visit Barcelona than the summer months. Why? Well, first of all the summer months are packed with tourist action in the city, and higher prices. Come September and October, most people have gone back to school and back to work, leaving Barcelona to the locals and a few wise travellers. Also, if you’re not into beach bathing and hot humid weather, the fall provides a cooler climate to sight-see in. However, in September and right up until the first part of October, the Mediterranean is still warm enough to swim in and the beaches are a lot less crowded. While the summer is packed with parties, the Catalans continue to celebrate in the fall as well. Here are five upcoming events not to be missed this autumn: 1- La Mercé, Barcelona’s most important fiesta. La Mercé is Barcelona’s patron saint, and she is celebrated vigorously from the 23rd of September to the 27th. This is a city-wide party involving lots of music, fireworks, food and parades. It’s also free. Seeing the Mercé is something to consider planning your trip around. www.bcn.es   2- Festa Major de la Barceloneta. Again with the parties! Does it ever stop? No. No it doesn’t. So just in case you didn’t have enough fiesta at La Mercé then come over

to the city’s beach-side Barrio and participate in Barceloneta’s ‘neighborhood party’ or Festa Major. It begins officially on the 26th of September and ends on the 5th of October. Expect singing, speeches and fireworks. The largest fireworks display will be held the 5th of October at 10pm. 3- Asia Festival. There are many folks living in Barcelona who have Asian heritage and this festival is put on by some of them to share Asian culture with the rest of the city. I went to this festival last year (now in its 8th year) and really enjoyed it (especially the food!). It begins the 24th of September on Parque Ciutadella. 4- Docúpolis Film Fest. Every month there’s another film fest in town and this time it’s international documentary films! Held at the CCCB, over 100 films will be shown over a week in addition to lectures and workshops. It begins September 29th. 5-Mozart Festival. Held at L’Auditori, this mini-festival celebrates some of Mozart’s best pieces performed by an international group of musician. It begins the 26th of September. Post from: The Barcelona Guide
